District Update - March 24, 2020

March 24, 2020

Dear South Lake Schools Community:

We are just over a week into the mandatory school closure and things have changed in ways we never imagined at the start of the school year.  In a very short period of time, our South Lake staff put supports in place that will help our community brave this crisis, and I wanted to take a moment to thank them for everything they have done to support our school community.  Specifically, I would like to recognize the following:

  • Curriculum Department – In conjunction with teachers and administrators, we were able to put together supplemental materials for students at every grade level. A portal on our district website allows our families to access these materials at any time ( ).  Without the dedication and commitment of our administrators, teachers, and support staff, this would not have been possible.
  • Operations/Facilities – The custodial staff continues to clean throughout the mandatory closure as they fill one of the most important roles in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
  • Culinary Arts – Our Culinary Arts staff prepared 108 quarts of soup last week and have 78 additional quarts ready for pickup on Friday. This would not have been possible without our great staff and our many partnerships with local businesses and community organizations (many of the ingredients were donated).
  • Transportation Department – Our bus drivers consistently deliver about 18 meals a day throughout our district, and their support has eased the burden of this crisis for many of our families.
  • Food Service Department – Our Food Service employees have prepared a total of 1,321 meals since Wednesday, March 18, 2020 (breakfast-653 and lunch-668). Their commitment to our students is commendable as they are truly heroes during this trying time.

South Lake Schools remains committed to providing meals to our families, but we need the help of our community to support these efforts.  If you are interested in volunteering a small part of your day to help prepare meals, please contact the Food Service Department at 586-435-1435.
